So far, so good

After spending a good deal of time researching car seats for my 7 month old, I couldn't imagine choosing anything other than Recaro. We now have a Signo in each car, and we love them. My son absolutely hated his infant carrier; his usually laid back demeanor was out the window when his butt hit that seat. He fought the Recaro the first time. The second time, however, he was happy to go for a ride! The seat is amazingly cushy. My 9 year old niece rode in the backseat with my son, and expressed a little jealousy over the comfy ride he was getting!!!
As far as it being huge, it is pretty big. However, in both of our vehicles, we have more room up front than we did with the infant carrier. There is also more room for the other backseat passengers than with the infant carrier. It is a little taller, and I have a little trouble seeing when I merge. But if I sit up nice and straight, problem solved! Oh, and my husband and I drive a Ford Escort and a Chevy Aveo, both pretty small cars. No problem!!
Also, recarochildseat.com was amazing. When the seat I ordered was placed on backorder and I told them about my dilemma (my son being less than an inch away from outgrowing his infant seat) they quickly responded and tried to resolve it. Four days later I had a car seat. So, they were pretty awesome to deal with :).

Excellent Safety Seat

I bought the signo car seat for my daughter and 1 month ago I was involved in a car accident. It was a side impact collision and my 16 month old daughter was in the car and she didn't even recieve a scratch. Thanks to the side head padding she would of gotten whip lash with any other car seat but she left that accident with no trauma to herself at all. Thank you Ricaro!

RECARO is the best

After doing extensive research, I purchased the Signo for my 14 mo son, who is now 17 mo and still RF. I looked at many other seats to include the Radian and the Boulevard. The decision was an easy one.
What sold me was the head protection. The fabric is extremely soft and I have not had any issues with the straps twisting. The padding in this seat is amazing there is padding everywhere! Once we got the seat I felt confident that he is as safe as possible. Once installed, the seat does not move at all. The only draw back that I can think of is that the seat sits up very high and could potentially create a blind spot for the driver. I just use my mirrors and look over my shoulder, but I do see how that could be an issue. However, it did not deter us from purchasing an additional seat for the second car. We plan to use RECARO exclusively for all of our subsequent seats.
RECARO is the best!

AMAZING! BETTER THAN BRITAX!!!

I am a nanny and a little OCD about carseats. The kids that I nanny for are very special to me, I wanted to know if something ever happened, I would know that they would be as safe as possible! I only bought one, thinking that the 5 year old I nanny for wouldnt really fit or want to be in this seat, boy was I wrong. She loves everything pink, and for her to reject the pink booster I got her and want this black seat (bought for her baby sister) is saying alot. Her quotes exactly, "The black one is much more comfy, much better for naps, Miss Haley, can I have this one, Brookey can have the other one." And beyond being comfy, it is super safe! The wings are better than the boulevards and deeper, allowing for better head support during a crash. It is HUGE though. I have a toyota corolla and my backseat is pretty much all carseat. (a marathon for 17 month old, and the recaro for 5 year old) I am really debating getting another one! Great, expensive but look for deals online. This carseat is awesome, you wont regret it!

Happy Customer

I'm very happy with my RECARO Signo. The $1 return shipping was enough incentive for me to try this seat without first seeing it in person. We live in a rural mountainous location and are often on the road for long periods of time. I needed something that was extremely secure and comfortable for my 14 mo. daughter who had stopped sleeping in her old seat due to discomfort. The extra side protection cushions give her somewhere to rest her head and I can tell she likes the feel of the soft fabric as she is constantly rubbing her cheeks on it and smiling! She is now one happy camper and I am too because I know she is both safe and comfortable.
Overall I'm very happy with the quality of this product. The only flaw (which I had read in reviews and am now experiencing myself) is the twisting of belts due to the soft fabric they are made from. It just requires a little extra patience and would not stop me from purchasing another RECARO in the future. I'm hooked!

RECARO Signo Fits in my '03 VW GTI

forward facing only,
I have twins so one on each side of the car. These seats are great, the babies fit snug, the car seats are easy to adjust and come in and out easy. So the straps twist a bit... SO! they are of a soft material. Deal with it.
I wish I had one of these growing up, maybe I wouldn't have that twitch in my neck!

We love the RECARO Signo convertible car seat!!! We bought two for our children and I do not regret paying this much for the safety and comfort of my children. I would highly recommend this car seat for anyone that wants their children safe and comfortable. The ONLY con is it sits up high, thats the only reason for the 4 stars. I will not own anything else!!!!!

RECARO Signo convertible - BEST seat ever made.

I bought a RECARO Signo a year ago, for my 1-yr-old. This was my 2nd
Recaro , 1st being a
RECARO Young Sport , which I've owned for 5 years. I absolutely LOVE Recaro seats. I've compared a ton of seats, from Britax, to SAFEGUARD, to Eddie Bauer. I've taken both of my kids to the local store and strapped each one of the kids into each one of the seats. After much hands on research, I've concluded that currently there are NO seats that come close to the protection
Recaro provide. Here is my take:
Positives:
1. Unrivaled side impact protection. From head, to shoulders, to hips, to upper legs. Both of my kids, in their respective seats, have all of the side protection exactly were it needs to be, to be most effective in case of an accident. This is after multiple adjustments as the kids have been growing.
2. Besides having the side protection positioned where it needs to be, the seat provides a much better level of protection. To understand what I mean, go to your local store, get a seat of any brand, and using your hand and a bit of force, try flexing the side "wings" of the side protection. You'll see how flimsy other seats are. Recaros utilize a much stronger plastic that still allows some flex dissipating load forces during an impact.
3. Once the seats are installed they don't move an inch and I do mean no movement, not even a 1/16". It is easy to install them, as all the latch hardware is well designed and engages with a positive click when it locks.
4. If the seat is installed properly, when kids fall asleep, their heads DO NOT bob around and fall forward or to the side causing stretching and twisting of the neck. This is due to the positioning of the head restraint, as close to the head as possible.
5. The easiest seats to adjust the harnesses, or take off the cover to be washed. All the belts are easy to pull tight and release. The buckle is massive, easy to operate and has a very positive feel when it locks. Try changing the harness position on the Eddie Bauer seat or taking off the cover to be washed. I had the "pleasure" of trying to remove a cover on the Eddie Bauer seat. I had the whole seat apart to the point of unthreading all the belts (from their buckles), disconnecting the seat from it's base (this required tools) and still the cover wouldn't come off. After an hour I gave up and told them to get a different seat. I saw what the problem was but there was no way around it, other than cutting off straps that held the cover in place.
5. Wanting to keep my kids in a 5-point harness for as long as possible I found that Recaros provide one of the tallest back rests. I think that the only seat that'll let you keep a kid in a 5-point harness longer is a SAFEGUARD, but check out their prices and level of side protection. I will go to a real booster like a
Recaro Start as soon as my oldest outgrows the 5-point harness.
Negatives:
It's a big seat and does take up a lot of room in the back seat. My wife can not install the seats on her own, but then again, she couldn't install any other seat. Other than that I can't think of any other negatives. Being as big as these seats are, they both fit with no problems in the back seat of our 3-series BMW, leaving enough space between them and on the sides for storage of kids' stuff.
I did read that people had problems with the straps twisting. I'm not sure why but I hadn't encountered this problem. My buckles do twist around once in a great while, but it is an absolute breeze to straighten them out, as the slots in the buckles are a bit wider than in the other seats. I had a very tough time untwisting belts in a Britax and in an Edie Bauer seat, as their buckles are much more narrow.
Take my advice for what it's worth. But after 5 years of using Recaros, the only reason I decided to spend my valuable time to share information with others is because these are truly outstanding products and I'm back to buy two more seats, for the grandparents.

Safety First

It blows my mind that people are fussing about twisting straps! The safety of the RECARO Signo is just amazing. The magnitude of this seat is second to none. I have 5 children (ages 1 to 16) so I know a little about car seats, and I wish that I had known about this seat for my other kids. I had the Britax for two of the other children, and, in my opinion, the "sturdiness" and safety features of the RECARO seat far exceed that of the Britax (and any other brand for that matter). I can put my 1 year old in the Signo and know that she is safe. I don't care if the straps twist or not....I laugh in the face of twisted straps! My baby girl is safe and that is ALL I'm concerned about. If you want your child safe, buy this car seat. You won't be disappointed!
